About Us

Who We Are

Direct Parrots was brought about by a passion for parrots, I have had pet parrots all my life and have bred chicks as a hobby for 15+ years.

It all started out with a pet African Grey for me, then a friendship with Davy Stewart who taught me everything I know today. He showed me how to care for my parrots, how to build flights and aviaries and how to rear the chicks once all the 'hard' work was done. Rearing chicks is hard work but at the time I didn't know it.

Through Davy I meet Rebecca of Beck's bird barn and yet again more knowledge was bestowed on me. The set up of Beck's Bird Barn was forever in my mind and from it I knew if I ever got the chance I'd like to make my hobby into a business idea.

Last year I took the idea and decided to make a business from it.

Direct Parrots and Aviaries was launched and a deal to buy breeding stock was agreed. All I needed was a business partner, some aviaries built and more time and effort than i could afford.

With my business partner we began the build of the Aviary in June 2017 with the completion of the Aviary agreed to be November 2017 as the breeding stock was arriving.

Now a year on and we've collected a large amount of breeding stock consisting of small Quakers, Alexandarines, Eclectus, African Greys, Blue-Fronted Amazons, Yellow Naped Amazons, Blue and Gold Macaws and Greenwing Macaws.

BIRDS WE BREED

MACAWS

The blue-and-gold macaw, is a large South American parrot with blue top parts and yellow under parts. They are popular in aviculture because of their striking color, ability to talk and close bonding to humans.

AFRICAN GREYS

African grey parrots form very strong bonds with their owners and can be quite emotionally needy. Due to this trait, they do best with owners who can devote ample time to handling and socializing with them daily.

AMAZONS

Yellow-naped Amazon parrots are intelligent creatures that make excellent pets for owners who want to form a great bond with their bird. Their remarkable speaking abilities make them one of the most popular Amazon parrot species.

ECLECTUS'

The Eclectus parrot is unusual in the parrot family for its difference in the colours of the plumage between sexes. A stocky short-tailed parrot, it measures around 35 cm in length.

PARROTLET

Parrotlets are not noisy birds, making them great for people living in apartments. They will repeat words and simple phrases, but are not known to be the finest talkers of the parrotlet family.

CAIQUES

White bellied caiques are quite a little bundle of fluff. With those ruffled chest feathers and a variety of vibrant tropical colors, they are without a doubt cute and pretty birds.

COCKATIELS

The cockatiel, also known as weiro bird, or quarrion, is a small parrot that is a member of its own branch of the cockatoo family endemic to Australia. They are prized as household pets and companion parrots throughout the world.

COCKATOOS

The umbrella cockatoo, also known as the white cockatoo or the great white-crested cockatoo, is well-known as being one of the most affectionate and affable companion birds.

CONURES

Conures, which vary in size from small to medium, often charm people with their playfulness and inquisitive personalities. They generally like to be where the household activity is, which can include mealtime and hanging out with their favored people.

LORIKEETS

Sweet-natured, vibrantly brilliant rainbow lorikeets are long-lived, medium-sized parrots that grow to just over a foot long from the beak to the tail feathers. They are busybodies that like to be in the midst of the action.

PARAKEETS

The parakeet, is among the smallest of the parrot species commonly kept as pets. They are also one of the most popular pet birds in the world, due in part to the fact that they are quite affordable. These small parrots are exceedingly friendly and easy to tame.

QUAKERS

Often referred to as "clowns, Quakers are known for their fun-loving, comical personalities and their energetic, spunky nature. Not everyone can meet their care needs, as they prefer a lot of attention. But for the right person, a quaker parrot can make an affectionate and entertaining companion.

SENEGALS

The colorful and relatively small Senegal is remarkably quiet and calm. It can talk and mimic, although it is not the most prolific talkers of the parrots. It has affectionate, fun-loving and comical antics that are very entertaining and playful.
